Introduction of Matara Health.
 
There is a State controlled Base Hospital in the heart of the city with clinic facilities for almost all the illnesses with an air conditioned Intensive Care Unit, well equipped operation theatre, and wards attended by specialist and other doctors providing round the clock service. And also there are private hospitals with ward and other facilities and channel service for specialist treatment. Further to this the Health Unit of the Municipal Council keeps the city clean.
  
 

Special Health Ministry team in Matara to combat Dengue

  
  With the spread of Dengue in Matara, the Health Ministry yesterday dispatched a special team of health officials to the area to combat its spread, Ministry sources said.

Among the 199 cases that were reported 59 are from Matara. Already Health Minister, W D J Seneviratne has already appointed a six member Special Task Committee to make recommendations to prevent and eradicate Dengue.

The program, which is coordinated by the Provincial Director of Health Services, includes a team of 52 Public Health Inspectors (Phi's) who will conduct awareness program and clean the area to prevent a further spread of the disease.
